Celebration Policy
At Greenside Nursery, we believe that birthday celebrations and religious holidays are very important to the lives of your children and that of their families. We look forward to them, help acknowledge them and celebrate them in the nursery. The setting acknowledges your child’s birthday and celebrates it by using non-food based activities that make your child feel special.
Religious and cultural celebrations
For religious celebrations and seasonal celebrations, we focus on non food based activites, or include healthy cooking.
Activities, games and songs also link at these times. Some examples of how we celebrate using healthy food/ non food based activties include:
Chinese New Year – Stir fry vegetables, noodles and bean shoots
Halloween – Pumpkin design and apple bobbing and other games
Autumn Harvest Festival – Vegetable soup
Easter – Painted eggs
Diwali – Dolls and puppets to retell the story of Rama and Sita
Eid – Rice pudding, fruits, pitta bread and dips
Our local community regularly celebrates some of the above festivities, which we happily enjoy together.
Birthdays
We celebrate as a class by singing “happy birthday” to the child during circle time. We use wooden pretend cake which children then pretend to cut and share. Parents are advised if they wish to bring something special into the setting we only accept fruit (try exotic fruits as something new and different) or non food based items.
This is marketed as different and exciting by the staff which is viewed positively by the children as something to try and enjoy.
